Disk space requirements
The ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS) requires 10 MB of disk space.
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, 4.0, and 4.5 support
The Web Adaptor requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1) in order to be installed. Once installed, you can optionally download and install the ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 Web Adaptor (IIS) .NET 4 Support and Trust Patch to add support for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 and 4.5.
If you haven't done so already, you'll need to install .NET Framework Version 4.0 or 4.5 on your own before you can modify your Web Adaptor's application pool to target version 4.0. The 4.0 application pool version corresponds to .NET Framework Versions 4.0 and 4.5. The instructions for configuring the Web Adaptor application pool to target version 4.0 are included in the patch.
If you do not download and install the patch, your Web Adaptor's application pool will only be able to target version 2.0. The 2.0 application pool version corresponds to .NET Framework Version 3.5 SP1.
The .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is available for download on the installation media. However, on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 must be installed using Windows Features. Follow the instructions below to install version 3.5 SP1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2:
Windows 7
Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off. Enable and install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1.
Windows Server 2008 R2
Open Server Manager > Features > Add Features. Enable and install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1.

The ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS) requires IIS be installed and specific IIS components enabled. Supported versions are 6.0, 7.0, 7.5, and 8.0. The ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS) setup will not proceed if IIS is not detected and specific IIS components enabled. Follow the instructions below to install Microsoft IIS:
