- Support for Oracle Linux is based on Oracle documentation that Oracle Linux is compatible-both source and binary-with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. See Oracle Linux FAQ http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/027617.pdf.
- Oracle Linux 5 is compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. DBMS support is Oracle 11.2.0.2.0 and up.
- Oracle Linux 6 is compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. DBMS support is Oracle 11.2.0.3.0 and up.
- Support for the Oracle Exadata Database Machine is based on Oracle guidance that OEM software that supports both Oracle Linux and Oracle RAC is compatible with Oracle Exadata.
- Oracle Exadata Database Machine with Oracle Linux Server is supported starting at ArcGIS 10.1 on 11g R2 (11.2.0.2).
- Oracle 11g R1 (11.1.0.7) is no longer supported at ArcGIS 10.2.1.
- Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.1) is no longer supported at ArcGIS 10.2.1.
- Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.3) is supported as the base version starting at ArcGIS 10.2.1.
- Oracle 12c R1 (12.1.0.1) is supported starting at ArcGIS 10.2.1.
- A new option in Oracle 12c, called Multitenant Architecture, consisting of a container database that can hold many pluggable databases, is supported at the pluggable database level. ArcGIS supports the same functionality in pluggable databases as is supported for Oracle 11g R2. Esri is evaluating new Oracle 12c features that are appropriate for the ArcGIS platform and will add support for them based on suitability and customer demand.
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and 2003 R2 are no longer supported starting at ArcGIS 10.2.2.
Database requirements
- The Oracle Text component must be installed. The Text component is installed by default in Oracle; however, if you did not perform a default installation, the Text component may not have been installed.
- Also note that if there is no native ArcSDE build for the operating system of the server hosting the Oracle database, then there is no support for SQL access to ST_Geometry or ST_Raster. ST_Geometry and ST_Raster storage can be used from ArcSDE clients, but SQL access to this data is not supported.
Oracle 10g R2 (10.2.0.x) requirements
- Oracle 10.2.0.3 ST_GEOMETRY users need to apply Oracle Patch that fixes Oracle bug 6756089.
Oracle 11g R1 (11.1.0.x) requirements
- 8593954 - For 64-bit Linux, Sun Solaris, HP-UX Itanium, and IBM AIX
- 8655460 - For 64-bit Windows
Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.x) requirements
- Oracle 11.2.0.1 users may need to apply Oracle Patch 8795792. See KB Article 38470 for more information.
- Oracle 11.2.0.3 (starting at 10.2.1) is the base supported version for 11g. However, there are several issues customers are encountering in 11.2.0.3. Therefore, Esri recommends moving to 11.2.0.4. The issues are detailed in this Esri technical article.
Oracle database patch support
Oracle 10.2.0.3, 11.1.0.7, 11.2.0.1, and 12.1.0.1 or higher Oracle Patch. This includes Oracle patch set levels and Oracle Interim (One-Off) Patch as per Oracle Corporation's Patch Set Overview and Interim Patch documentation.
See Oracle Support for all Oracle patch set (and Interim Patch) documentation and installation instructions. Esri recommends making a full backup of your Oracle database prior to applying any Oracle patch sets or interim patch. If functionality that was working prior to applying the Oracle patch set or interim patch stops working, return to the previous version of Oracle. Contact Oracle support as needed.
Operating system limitations
Linux
- ArcSDE application server is only supported on Linux x86_64, on CPUs that adhere to the x86_64 architecture (64-bit), with supported Linux releases.
Windows
- Windows 7 64-bit is supported for basic ArcSDE application server testing and application development use only. It is not recommended for deployment in a production environment.
Software required to connect to a DBMS
Your client machine (for example, the one running ArcMap) will need to have the appropriate client files installed for the RDBMS you are using. These client files are available from their respective RDBMS vendors, but they are also available on Esri Customer Care Portal as a convenience. See Database clients for more information. RDBMS client files available from the customer care portal are IBM DB2, IBM Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL. Client files for IBM Netezza, Oracle and Teradata are not available on the customer care portal and must be obtained from the IBM, Oracle and Teradata support sites.
