ArcGIS 10.1 License Manager
Introduction
The copy protection mechanism for ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop and ArcGIS 10.1 Engine Concurrent Use product lines has been updated to use the FlexNet Publisher v11.10 software. This update requires that ArcGIS 10.1 License Manager is installed. The ArcGIS 10.1 License Manager includes the following enhancements:
- Selective deauthorization control. Individual products and quantities can now be deauthorized.
- Improved license usage visibility.
- Force check-in consumed licenses.
- License upgrade tools.
- Single-trip offline authorization.
- Ability to host ArcGIS 10.0 and 10.1 licenses on the same License Manager.
Migration: Using the old and new versions of ArcGIS License Manager simultaneously
ArcGIS 10.1 License Manager will support hosting 10.0 licenses. It is not necessary to install 10.1 License Manager on a second machine to facilitate migration between 10.0 and 10.1 licenses. This is achieved by uninstalling ArcGIS 10.0 License Manager and installing ArcGIS 10.1 License Manager. This will cause a minimal disruption to users during the migration.
To avoid disrupting your production environment during the upgrade to ArcGIS 10.1 License Manager, you can set up 10.1 License Manager on a second machine. This will allow your existing ArcGIS concurrent use products to continue working while you complete the upgrade. Once the upgrade is completed, any older versions of the license manager must be uninstalled and users directed to the new license manager.
If using the options file on License Manager 10.0, this must be copied to the equivalent installation directory for ArcGIS 10.1 License Manager.
Download, extract, and install ArcGIS 10.1 License Manager
Uninstall any previous versions of ArcGIS License Manager and the Sentinel Protection Installer hardware key drivers using Add/Remove Programs, if applicable.
This latest version of the license manager will support all ArcGIS 10.x and 9.x Concurrent Use product releases.
Windows
- Make sure you have write access to your download directory location as well as your ArcGIS installation directory location, and that no one is accessing it.
- Existing users previous to ArcGIS 10.1: Use the ArcGIS Uninstall Utility, available on the Esri Customer Care Portal, to locate and automatically remove previous ArcGIS 9.x or 10.x products that are installed on your machine.
- Click on the product's download link on Esri's Customer Care Portal.
- Recommended: Use the Esri Download Manager to manage your 10.1 downloads.Caution:
When downloading with the Esri Download Manager, you can select and download multiple products. However, only one product should be started at a time when the downloads are complete.
- The first panel of the extraction wizard will allow you to indicate the location on your computer to which you would like the installation files extracted. When satisfied, click OK.Note:
If you choose to change the destination location when starting the .exe (either from the Launch option in the Esri Download Manager or running the downloaded self-extracting .exe manually), be sure to choose a unique location to extract the files.
- You will be notified when the file extraction is complete. To automatically install the software, leave the Launch the setup program check box on the final panel of the extraction wizard checked. To install the software at a later time, uncheck the check box. You can install the software at any time by browsing to the product's extracted location and running the setup.exe. Note:
Administrative privileges will be required for installing the ArcGIS software product. If you do not have the necessary privileges, an administrator on your system can install the software by running the setup.exe at the product's extracted location.
- For help with installing the ArcGIS License Manager, please see the License Manager Reference Guide.
- Once the installation is complete, the ArcGIS License Manager will start automatically.
Linux/Solaris
- Click on the product's download link on Esri's Customer Care Portal.
- Save the file to a disk location large enough to hold both the gzip file and the tar file.Note:
If you are installing more than one ArcGIS 10.1 product, please place each gzip file in a separate directory before expanding and extracting the tar file; otherwise, the Documentation directory, support directory, Setup script, and install.htm files will be overwritten.
- Make sure you have read-write-execute (rwx) access to your intended ArcGIS installation location.
- gunzip the ArcGIS 10.1 file for your platform to get the tar file. At the prompt, type % gunzip <file_name>.tar.gz.
- Extract the product tar file to create the installation directory: % tar xvf <file_name>.tar.
- Change directory to the extracted tar file location, and run the provided ./Setup script to install the ArcGIS 10.1 License Manager.
- For help with installing the ArcGIS License Manager, please see the License Manager Reference Guide.
- Once the installation is complete, open the License Server Administrator from <install path>/arcgis/license10.1> ./LSAdmin.
Upgrade ArcGIS 10.0 licenses to 10.1
Checked out or borrowed licenses will have to be returned first before all your Concurrent Use licenses can be upgraded.
For existing ArcGIS 10.0 users, automatic license upgrade functionality has been introduced at ArcGIS 10.1 which allows for a much easier license upgrade process. Instead of deauthorizing older licenses and authorizing the latest version, users can convert their existing 10.0 licenses to 10.1 using the one-step upgrade option.
- Uninstall the ArcGIS 10.0 License Manager without deauthorizing your existing licenses.
- Install the ArcGIS 10.1 License Manager.
- Go to the Authorization folder, click Upgrade Now ... and follow the instructions to complete the upgrade process.
Authorize ArcGIS 10.1 License Manager
- Recommended: Use an Internet connection to complete the authorization steps below.
- If you do not have an Internet connection for the machine on which you intend to install the software, you can authorize the software via e-mail or via the Esri Customer Care Web site.
- If you want to facilitate the authorization process or authorize silently, a provisioning file generated from the Authorizing and Provisioning portal of the Esri Customer Care site can be used.
- After opening the License Server Administrator, click Authorize Now....
- Select the default option I need to authorize licenses on my license server, then select the product you want to authorize.
- Select Authorize with ESRI now using the Internet. If using a provisioning file, select the option I have received an authorization file from ESRI and browse to the file.
- Enter your personal information where applicable.
- Enter your core product authorization number or numbers (EFLxxxxxxxxx or EEAxxxxxxxxx) along with the number of licenses you would like to authorize. See the Authorization and Provisioning page on the Esri Customer Care Portal to obtain this if you do not have this number available to you.
- Enter the authorization numbers for extensions, if applicable. For extensions not listed, manually type in the extension name followed by the authorization number and number of copies to be authorized.
- Click Finish after the authorization process is complete.
The license manager service is started automatically on installation. If the License Server Status displays NOT RUNNING, then select the Start/Stop License Server in the table of contents and click Start.
