Using an existing content directory from a previous installation

The content directory stores content installed with the portal as well as user-generated content. The content directory remains on the machine after you uninstall Portal for ArcGIS. The default location is <Portal for ArcGIS installation directory>/arcgis/portal/usr/arcgisportal.

When you install Portal for ArcGIS, you specify the installation location. If you're pointing the installer to a previous portal installation, the content directory in that location will be used in the new setup. If the content directory does not exist in that location, you can specify the location after the installation completes.

NoteNote:

To re-use content directories from versions earlier than 10.2, please contact Esri Professional Services.

Using an existing content directory from a previous installation

If the content directory is located in the installation directory, the Portal for ArcGIS setup will automatically detect it and use it in the subsequent installation. To do this, follow the steps in Installing Portal for ArcGIS on Linux.

If the content directory does not exist in the installation location, you can specify the directory after the installation completes. For full instructions, see Changing the portal content directory.
