Setting the time view for LRS data

The advanced linear referencing system (ALRS) supports temporality by establishing from and to dates for all ALRS elements. When LRS Networks and event layers are displayed in a map, they are always associated with a specific date/time stamp. This date/time stamp is referred to as the temporal view date (TVD). By default, the TVD is set to your computer's current system date and time. You can change the TVD of Network, Event, and Calibration Point layers in two ways:

Setting the TVD from the Roads And Highways Editing toolbar

Setting the TVD from the Layer Properties dialog box

Setting the TVD from the Roads And Highways Editing toolbar

This method is helpful in changing the TVD of all the layers (Network, Event, and Calibration Point) in the MXD at once.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcMap and open your MXD containing the LRS layers.
  2. Click the Set Date Filter button Set Date Filter on the Roads And Highways Editing toolbar.

You can hover over the Set Date Filter tool Set Date Filter to see the presently set TVD.

Hover over the Set Date Filter tool to view the TVD

The Set Date Filter dialog box appears.

    Set Date Filter window
  3. Click Details.

The list of the LRS layers present in the .mxd appears with their individual TVDs.

  4. You have two choices to set a common date filter for all the LRS layers present in the map.
    • Choose the Use current system date and time option to set the TVD from the system's current date and time.
    • Choose the Specific date option to specify a TVD.
  5. Click OK.

The selected TVD will be set for all the LRS layers present in the .mxd.

  6. To clear the TVD from the LRS layers, choose the Clear definition filter for all LRS layers option.

This action will remove all definition filters from the LRS layers including networks, intersections, and calibration points.

NoteNote:

When using temporal data with time-enabled ArcGIS tools, such as thetime slider, all TVD definition queries must be removed from your layers prior to using these tools. When using temporal data with the Roadway Characteristics Editor, all TVD definition queries must be removed from your layers prior to publishing your map service. To learn more about deploying the Roadway Characteristics Editor, see the Overview of the Roadway Characteristics deployment guide.

Setting the TVD from the Layer Properties dialog box

You can change the TVD for each individual layer in your map by opening the Layer Properties dialog box and clicking the ALRS tab.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. Add LRS Networks and ALRS event layers to your map.
  3. Right-click the LRS Network or event layer in the table of contents and click Properties.

The Layer Properties dialog box appears.

  4. Click the ALRS tab on the Layer Properties dialog box.
  5. Click the Specify temporal view date option.
  6. Use the Temporal view date calendar control to choose a TVD.
    Specify the temporal view date
  7. Click Apply.
  8. Click OK.
