Saving item properties

After you've added a layer to a web map, you can change many of the display properties. You can change symbols, configure pop-up windows, set the visibility range, hide the layer in the legend, apply filters, and set refresh interval. For layers that you own, you can save these changes as properties of the item so the properties apply to the layer anytime it appears in a web map.

NoteNote:

You can only save item properties on layers you own and have added to the ArcGIS Online website. For services running on your GIS server, the configuration applies to the item in the website and not the actual service. For hosted services you have published to ArcGIS Online, the configuration applies to the service. You cannot save item properties on imported layers from files because these layers are stored in the map and not as unique items in the website.

To save your layer changes as properties of the service, follow the steps below.

Steps:
  1. Verify that you are logged in to the website.
  2. Open the map with the layer in the ArcGIS.com map viewer.
  3. Click the Details button.
  4. Click the Contents button.
  5. Navigate to the layer whose properties you want to save with the item.
  6. Click the arrow to the right of the layer name.
  7. Click Save Item Properties.
