Joining an organization

Members join an organization by accepting an email invitation from that organization's administrator and establishing an organizational account. As a member, you see a customized view of the site, for example, a gallery of your organization's featured content, and have access to the content and groups shared with the organization. In addition, some members may have privileges to publish hosted services, and others may have administrative controls. For more information, see Roles in an organization.

The administrator will have either preestablished an organizational account for you to use or elected to let you associate an account to use with the organization (for example, by registering an existing account). Once the account is associated with an organization, it becomes part of that organization. Even though you have a unique login, your account is not a personal account that you own and can take with you if you leave the organization. If the administrator later removes you from the organization, your maps, data, groups, and so on, stay with the organization and can be reassigned to other members. Your account is removed from the system and you can no longer access it, even if it was one you had established before joining the organization.

NoteNote:

At this time there is no option for joining an ArcGIS organization that you are explicitly invited into using your Enterprise Login. To sign in to your organization that is testing Enterprise Logins during beta, you can directly use the Sign In page.

Joining with a preestablished login

After the administrator of the organization has invited you to join, you receive an e-mail from ArcGIS Notifications with the subject "An Invitation to join <your> Organization on ArcGIS Online" where <your> contains the name of your organization. Your preestablished user name is included in the e-mail. Once you receive the e-mail invitation, follow the steps below to join the organization:

Steps:
  1. Open the e-mail and take note of your user name. Your user name is case sensitive.
  2. Click the link below the text Please click this link to finish setting up your account and establish your password.
  3. Enter a password that is between 8 and 28 characters in length and contains letters, numbers, or a combination of both. Special characters and spaces are not allowed. Your password is case sensitive. Reenter the password as confirmation.
  4. Select an identity question and enter an answer.
  5. Click the Review & Accept Terms of Use button. Read the terms of use and click the I Agree button to agree to the terms.
  6. Click the Sign In button and click OK to agree to the conditions of joining an organization. By joining an organization, any items in your account become part of the organization's content and can be modified or deleted by the administrator. If you leave the organization, your account, including your content and groups, is deleted from ArcGIS Online, and your items are no longer available to you or your organization.

You are now a member of the organization and see your profile page. Your profile contains your user settings, such as descriptive information about yourself, whether or not your profile is viewable by others, and a link to edit your account. For more information, see Managing your profile.
