Linking to content
Content items, search results, and groups can be accessed directly by a URL. This means you can link to a details page, web map, list of search results, or group by copying and pasting the URL that appears in the address bar of your web browser. For example, the URL http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=35c2e978623849a098acd04f9dfbfb4d opens the San Francisco map. This lets you easily promote public items in the website through e-mail, blogs, and social media.
Be sure your item is shared with everybody (public) before you send out a URL. See Sharing content for more information.
Linking to item details
- Open the details page for the item you want to link to. To get to the details page, click the Details link underneath the item thumbnail.
- Copy the URL that appears in the web browser address bar.
- Paste the URL in an e-mail or website.
The link goes to the details for the item, not the item itself.
Details include Facebook and Twitter buttons to help you quickly share content through your Facebook and Twitter accounts. See Item details for more information.
Linking to search results
To quickly get the URL of search results, follow these steps:
- Use search to display a list of results.
- Copy the URL that appears in the web browser address bar.
- Paste the URL in an e-mail or website.
You can also manually create a URL of search results:
- Start with the website URL: http://www.arcgis.com. If you are a member of an organization, start with your organization's website, for example, http://acme.maps.arcgis.com. You can see your organization's URL from your profile page. See Managing your profile for more information.
- Add a reference to the path of the file: /home/search.html?.
- Add your query and query type as q=<search string>&t=<content or group> (for example, q=streets&t=content).
- Add &content=all if you want the search results to include ArcGIS files. This option will set the site to show all content, even if the site had been set to show web content only. See Finding content for ArcGIS desktop products for more information.
In this example, your complete URL is http://www.arcgis.com/home/search.html?q=streets&t=content&content=all.
