Installing the ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS)

The steps below will guide you through the ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS) installation process.

How to prepare to install the ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS)

1. Verify that your system meets all system requirements.
2. Log in as a user with administrative privileges.
3. Close all applications.
4. Browse to the downloaded folder containing the ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS) setup or insert the ArcGIS for Server media into the appropriate drive to automatically launch the setup.

You are now ready to proceed with the ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS) installation.

How to install the ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS)

1. The ArcGIS 10.1 Web Adaptor (IIS) setup program should launch automatically after the download has been completed. If the ArcGIS 10.1 Web Adaptor (IIS) setup program does not launch automatically, browse to the location of the downloaded setup files and double-click Setup.exe.

2. During the installation, read the license agreement and accept it, or exit if you don't agree with the terms.

3. At the Select Features dialog box, click Next if you accept the default features selected. If you want to install Cross-domain policy files, enable the Cross-domain Policy Files feature.

4. Optionally enable Cross-domain Policy Files.

   By default, Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight web applications are not allowed to access web services that reside outside the domain where the application is hosted. Cross-domain policy files enable access to web services outside the application’s domain. When the Cross-domain Policy Files feature is enabled, two cross-domain policy files will be installed in the IIS web server root folder: crossdomain.xml for Adobe Flash applications and clientaccesspolicy.xml for Microsoft Silverlight applications. These files will enable Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight applications to access feature services hosted by ArcGIS for Server.

   Limiting access to web server resources

   You can modify the contents of a cross-domain policy file to limit access of web applications to specific web server resources (for example, folders, files), types of requests, protocols, and so forth.

5. Choose a website for the Web Adaptor. Available websites are listed as <website name (port)>.

   If you don't see the Select website dialog box, this means you only have one website. If only one website is found on your machine, the ArcGIS Web Adaptor is automatically placed on that website without displaying the Select website dialog box.

6. Enter the name of the ArcGIS Web Adaptor. The default value is arcgis.

   Note:

   If a virtual directory with the same name as the ArcGIS Web Adaptor already exists in the selected website, a message is displayed indicating that. Click OK to close the message and enter a different name for the ArcGIS Web Adaptor.

7. To complete the installation, follow the directions on the screen.

The ArcGIS Web Adaptor configuration page is launched after the installation has completed. You are now ready to configure the Web Adaptor.
