Tracking deletion of features (Maritime Charting)

This topic only applies to the enterprise production environment.

The Track Deletes tool allows you to record a reason why a feature is being deleted in the NIS database and reference the source document that led you to that decision.

During this process, a copy of the feature you are marking for deletion will be copied to a corresponding PLTS_NAUTICAL_DELETES_P/L/A feature class (one per geometry type), along with the information you provided in the Track Deletes dialog box. This information can be accessed at any time during your production cycle.

You can track delete reasons one at a time or work with multiple features at once. You will want to work with one feature at a time if the features have different reasons for deletion. You can mark more than one feature at a time if they share a common reason. In both cases, you will use the Track Deletes tool.

注注:

The Track Deletes tool is only supported while editing an NIS database.

Features that are marked for deletion with the Track Deletes tool are not deleted from the database until they are verified and posted to the default version. Until then, they will not be committed to the archive tables and can therefore be undeleted. This allows you to mark a feature for deletion and have a quality control person verify the edit before committing that change to the database.

步骤:
  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Editing.
  3. On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Nautical.
  4. Click the Production Start Editing button Production Start Editing on the Production Editing toolbar.
    注注:

The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.

    提示提示:

If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Show/Hide Attributes button Show/Hide Attributes on the Manage Features window.

  5. Select the feature(s) you want to delete.

  7. Type a reason for the deletion in the Reason text box.
  8. Set the source information.

This is the same information you enter on newly inserted features or modified features when using the SORDAT and SORIND attributes.

  9. Click OK.

The IS_DELETE field is set to True, and NIS_VERIFIED field to False, on the feature you marked for deletion.

    注注:

Based on how quality control is implemented, either the editor or a quality control person needs to verify the features marked for deletion before they are posted.

  10. Select the feature marked for deletion.
  11. Click the Update tab on the Manage Features window.
  12. In the Update Attributes window, set the NIS_VERIFIED field to True.

Once the feature marked for deletion is verified, it is deleted from the feature class when the changes are posted to the default version.

A copy of the feature's geometry is also stored in the feature's corresponding PLTS_NAUTICAL_DELETES feature class along with the reason and source information. The feature in the PLTS_NAUTICAL_DELETES feature class also needs to be verified.

  13. Add the PLTS_NAUTICAL_DELETES feature class to ArcMap if you haven't already.
  14. Select the new feature added to the PLTS_NAUTICAL_DELETES feature class.
  15. Click the Update tab on the Manage Features window.
  16. In the Update Attributes window, set the NIS_VERIFIED field to True.

The copy that is in the PLTS_NAUTICAL_DELETES feature class remains for reference.

    提示提示:

You can click the Undo button 撤消 on the Standard toolbar to undo the track delete edit if you have not saved your edits.

  17. Click the Save Edits button Save Edits.
  18. Click the Stop Editing button Stop Editing on the Production Editing toolbar.

The geodatabase becomes uneditable. If you have made edits, you will be prompted to save the changes if you want.
