Output Options

On the Output Options tab, select the items you always want appended to your file. Or, in the case of the Similarity Index and Tapestry .csv files, choose whether you always want them to be created.

• Append Geocode

  Append up to 15-digit string showing the census geography for the current record. The geocode is in the following format:

  13–15	Block

• Append Geocode Match Level (GEOLEVEL)

• Append Latitude/Longitude/Match Code (MATCH_CODE)

  A centroid indicating the latitude and longitude position of the address. The accuracy of this point is based on the Minimum Quality of Geocodes option on the Miscellaneous tab.

  Match codes (MATCH_CODE) detail the known qualities about the geocode. A location code has five characters. The first character indicates whether some part of the address was matched into one of four locator files (one of five locator files if the ZIP+4 option is used). The second character indicates which of the locator files the address was matched to. The third through fifth characters indicate how well the address matches in the locator specified by the character in position 2.

  • 1st Character (Status)

    M	Record was matched to a locator file.
    U	No match was possible.

  • 2nd Character (Location Name)

    Value	Description
    A	Address Points Locator: Indicates a match to the Tele Atlas Address Points database. Census Block ID and latitude-longitude coordinates are accurate to the address level.
    S	Street Address Locator: Indicates a match to the street address. Census Block ID and latitude-longitude coordinates are accurate to the street level.
    4	ZIP+4 Locator, where Zip4 type = 1: Indicates a match to the ZIP+4 centroid. Census Block ID and latitude-longitude coordinates represent the centroid of the ZIP+4.
    N	Street Name Locator: Indicates a match to the street name. Census Block ID and latitude-longitude coordinates are accurate to the midpoint of the street segment.
    2	ZIP+4 Locator, where Zip4 type = 2: Indicates a match to the ZIP+2 centroid. No Census lock ID is available for this location. Latitude and longitude coordinates represent the centroid of the ZIP+2.
    Z	ZIP Code Locator: Indicates a match to the 5-digit ZIP Code. No Census Block ID is available for this location. Latitude and longitude coordinates represent the centroid of the 5-digit ZIP Code.
    C	City Locator: Indicates a match to just the city. No Census Block ID is available for this location. Latitude and longitude coordinates represent the centroid of the city.
    X	Indicates a record that could not be matched by any of the locators.

  • Characters 3-5 (Score)

    000–100: The score is a value assigned to all potential candidates of an address match. The match score is based on how well the locations found in the reference data match with the address data being searched. A score can range from 0 to 100, with 100 being a perfect match.

• Append Locator Name

  Description of the locator used for this address, for example, Address_points, Street_Address, Zipcode, or Zip4, if available.

• Append ZIP+4 Type (if available)

  Append ZIP+4 Locator Type used to identify the given ZIP+4, usually 1 or 2.

  • 1—Indicates a ZIP+4 centroid
  • 2—Indicates a ZIP+2 centroid
• Append Complete Address Line

  Address Coder will append the standardized address information.

• Append Complete Last Line (City, State and ZIP Code)

  Address Coder will append the standardized city, state, and ZIP Code information.

• Append Tapestry (requires additional license and cost)

  This check box is not checked by default. A 2-digit alphanumeric code representing 1 of 66 consumer segments is added. If this check box is checked, the Customer Tapestry Profile will be produced. The program will prompt you for the base to use on your report. You have the option of appending the 2-character Tapestry code, the full 30-character description, or both. Additionally, you can create a .csv file that will contain the Tapestry information found on the second Tapestry Report page. You can also instruct Address Coder to display this file in Notepad once processing is complete.

• Append Census Blocks instead of BGs where available

  Instructs Address Coder to append a 15-character census block instead of the 12-character block group.

• Tapestry Match Level (requires additional license and cost)

  Additional options in Address Coder, which employ Esri's Tapestry Segmentation data, can help organizations find the types of consumers who would be most interested in their products and services. Organizations can use this information to craft different messages for various audiences based on the codes appended to each address record. Knowing who to target and what to target can cut marketing costs and improve response rates.

  Address Coder has two add-ons available: Tapestry and Tapestry ZIP+4. Both allow you to append Esri Tapestry Segmentation codes to address records: the first at the block group level of geography and the second at the ZIP+4 level of geography. The Tapestry add-on at the block group level is ideal for doing customer and market area analysis and is less expensive to purchase. The Tapestry ZIP+4 add-on is specifically geared toward profiling prospects or customers for a direct mail campaign. A ZIP+4 system is designed to improve targeting power and help you take advantage of postal discounts.

  A ZIP+4 must be on your input file; Address Coder currently will not add a ZIP+4 to an address.

• Calculate Similarity Index for these Geographies

  When you append Tapestry codes to your file, you have the option to calculate a Similarity Index. This is a way of locating other areas (states, CBSAs, counties, or ZIP Codes) with a similar Tapestry makeup to your profile. A high index indicates the presence of your top Tapestry types. So if the highest Tapestry Index on your report is 250, areas that are 100 percent of this type will get an SI of 250. The calculation is as follows:

  Tapestry Index on Your Profile * (Households in Tapestry Segment in the Target Area / Total Household in the Target Area)

  Summed for each of the 66 segments

• Append CBSA Code (CBSA Name)

  Append a 5-digit CBSA code indicating the Core Based Statistical Area in which the address lies. Current definitions are from the latest revisions released in 2010.To append the code to all possible records, it is required that GeoFix check box be checked.

• Append State FIPS Code

  The state's 2-digit FIPS Code will be appended to each record.

• Append County FIPS Code

  Append the county's 5-digit FIPS Code.

• Append Census Tract (SSCCCTTTTTT)

  Append the 11-character census tract code (state FIPS/county FIPS/tract with no decimal point).

• Append Tapestry LifeMode Code/Description

  Append the 2-character LifeMode code or its long descriptive name.

• Append Tapestry Urbanization Code/Description

  Append the 2-character Urbanization code or its long descriptive name.
