Smart Map Search
About
Smart Map Search is an optimized way to search and target areas that meet your criteria. Essentially, you zero in on areas of suitability. These suitable areas are most often based on ZIP Codes or block groups or any custom geography level containing attribute information.
For example, you might want to search the Los Angeles area for ZIP Codes containing the following:
- Population between 20,000 and 40,000 people
- Average household income of over $110,000
- Median age of 45–60 years
- Retail expenditure indices over 100
You could describe the above example search this way: Our ZIP Code marketing campaign is targeting moderately dense populated areas with wealthier established families who tend to spend money on home goods.
Here is an example of Smart Map Search:
Smart Map Search is accessed through the Business Analyst Window.
Variable percentages are not available for total base variables such as Total Population.
The Smart Map Search map layer is added to ArcMap via the Color-Coded Maps toolbar.
The Customer Prospecting tool is similar to Smart Map Search, although Customer Prospecting allows you to utilize customer point data within each feature.
Smart Map Search layers are not saved locally but rather in in-memory feature classes. You can save the layer permanently using Save As Layer File.
