Renaming a BIS geodatabase connection (Bathymetry Solution)

You may find that your bathymetry data would be better managed in multiple BIS geodatabases. You can manage connections to your BIS geodatabases with the Manage Connections tool. The Manage Connections dialog box recognizes both ArcSDE and file geodatabase types and lists the settings for each BIS geodatabase you are managing.

Within the Manage Connections dialog box, you can activate a particular BIS geodatabase, remove a BIS geodatabase from your management list, give your BIS geodatabase a local alias, and connect to a BIS geodatabase stored locally or on your network. You can give your BIS geodatabase a local alias name that makes sense to you, to help you manage your BIS geodatabases. For example, you might store bathymetry data for a particular port and want to give the BIS a local alias name for that port.

If you give a BIS geodatabase a local alias name, the database name will not be changed. The name of the .sde connection file to that database will also remain unchanged. The local alias is a local name you can give the database that will be helpful to you as you work with BIS geodatabases.
