Areas of interest in an instance (Aviation)
The area of interest (AOI) is the feature that is depicted on the product and represents the specific geographic extent of the instance. The area of interest could be based on an item in an index or any other polygon feature. You could also use an entire extent as the area of interest for a product.
Area of interest properties
There are several properties associated with an area of interest. These properties are divided into two sections: General and AOI. The General section includes properties such as the name, alias, description, and status of the area of interest. The AOI section includes properties such as the map scale, the reference scale for the area of interest, and whether the existence of the AOI has been verified.
When you add an area of interest to an instance, only the General properties are required. You can optionally indicate the AOI type, various scales, and whether the AOI contains data.
General properties
The properties in the General section allow you to define basic information about the area of interest and its state and include the following:
Property name |
Description |
---|---|
Name |
The name of the area of interest (limited to 230 characters) |
Alias |
The name displayed for the area of interest in the Product Library tree view |
Description |
A description of the area of interest |
Visible |
Indicates whether the area of interest is visible to other users when a Spatial Database Engine (SDE) database is used as the product library. By default, the value is False. When it is set to True, other product library users can see the AOI in the Product Library tree view. |
AOI properties
The properties in the AOI area allow you to specify the map and reference scales for the area of interest, as well as the validity of the area of interest. They include the following:
Property name |
Description |
---|---|
AOI Type |
The name of the area of interest type. For example, this could be Feature or Extent. |
Compilation Scale |
The scale at which the feature was originally collected. |
Map Scale |
The scale used to display the feature in ArcMap. If you are creating an area of interest based on the current map extent, the map scale matches the current map scale. |
Parent Instance |
The names of the solution, product class, series, product, and instance associated with the area of interest. |
Reference Scale |
The scale at which the area of interest appears in the data frame. |
Use Data |
Indicates whether the area of interest contains data. |
Verified |
Indicates whether the geometry of the area of interest has been verified. |
Extraction queries for areas of interest
When you are configuring the areas of interest, you can override or append to extraction queries that have been defined at the product class level. Whereas the product class extraction queries define the way data is going to be extracted for all series, products, instances, and areas of interest within the product class, the area of interest level allows you to override or append to them as necessary. For instance, you may only want to extract data with a certain scale for the current area of interest. An override can be built on the Extraction pane on the New Product dialog box that indicates that only features with a map scale of 1:50,000 are going to be extracted as part of the product. You can also append to extraction queries with an AND or an OR statement. If there is no query that includes the condition you need for extracting data, you can also create a new extraction query.
