Data frame managers
MPS-Atlas uses a data frame manager to add dynamic functionality through a series of additional properties to the standard data frames in ArcMap. Data frame managers can automatically calculate the coordinate system, scale, and rotation angle, as well as many other properties that automate map sheet creation as much as possible. A data frame manager is added to the main data frame associated with each map sheet (this is referred to as the basemap), but a data frame manager can also be added to any additional data frames in the layout. Additional data frames can be used for dynamic insets, adjoining sheet references, or overview maps.
In MPS-Atlas, you have the ability to add and delete data frame managers, briefly flash the area of interest, and change properties. A new data frame manager can be added to correspond with a new data frame on your map sheet. Flashing the area of interest provides you with a way to see the actual area of interest of your map sheet.
Data frame manager properties
Data frame managers provide the automation necessary for batch map production. Data frame properties are calculated and updated for each map sheet based on the size, location, or attributes of the area of interest feature or feature class.
Data frame manager properties have several configuration options. They allow you to choose which data frame manager to apply your changes, rename the data frame manager, as well as adjust the properties for the buffer, rotation, scale and extent, area of interest, data source, feature layer definition query, and spatial reference.
