An overview of the Hypsography toolset

The Hypsography toolset contains tools that create contours and elevation values in Defense Mapping products. Other tools in the toolset help you apply cartographic effects and add Defense specific codes to your contour data.

Tool

Description

Code Contours

Esri Defense Mapping cartographic production tool that applies hypsographic codes to input contour features. Applied codes are specific to defense schemas and include index contours, intermediate contours, depressions, tops, and other types listed in your defense data model.

Create and Simplify Contours

Cartographie militaire production tool that generates contours and smooths them for use in cartographic products. Contours are generated from input rasters. Once created, the contours are simplified without altering their essential shape.

Create Contours

Esri Defense Mapping cartographic production tool that creates and smooths contours from an input raster.

Create low and high spots

Esri Defense Mapping cartographic production tool that finds the high and low spot heights for each feature in an input area of interest. Spot heights are appended to a Defense Mapping feature class.

Create Spot Heights

Esri Defense Mapping cartographic production tool that creates elevation point features based on contour tops and depressions. Elevation points are created in each top and depression. Point height values are populated based on a digital elevation model.

Simplify Contours

Cartographie militaire production tool that simplifies contours for use in cartographic products. This tool preserves the essential shape of a contour by eliminating extraneous bends.

Suppress Spot Heights

Esri Defense Mapping cartographic production tool that suppresses the symbol for spot heights based on the input product type. Suppressing a symbol refers to setting a representation invisible.

Validate Spot Heights

Validates spot heights against contour tops in Esri Defense Mapping data models. This tool validates two conditions: a spot height is higher than or equal to the contour top that contains it and the contour top is not missing a contour line (based on contour interval) between it and the spot height. The tool creates a selection set of spot heights that fail this validation.
