Ways to customize the straight line diagram (Production Mapping)
At version 10.2.1, linear referencing functionality is deprecated. Tools associated with linear referencing in Production Mapping can still be found in the Customize dialog box, but the Production Linear Referencing toolbar is no longer available. At the next major release of Production Mapping, this functionality will not be available.
It is recommended that you use Esri Roads and Highways to maintain your linear referencing information.
Once a straight line diagram has been created, there are several ways you can customize it.
Change the symbology in the diagram
If you want to customize how the events are displayed, such as the color or label used to depict the information about the event, this can be managed through the layer properties.
Change the order of events in the diagram
The order in which events are displayed is a property that is set through the Generate Straight Line Diagram wizard. To change the order of events, you need to run through the wizard again. The order of the events is stored in the reference route saved in the map document (.mxd). If the other properties in the current straight line diagram are set the way you want, you can point to the .mxd with the diagram as the template when you use the wizard. In the wizard, the list of events is populated based on the order in the list from the .mxd you choose. In the wizard, you can move the events up or down in the list until the order you want is displayed.
Change the spacing between events in the diagram
The spacing between events is a property that is set through the Generate Straight Line Diagram wizard. To change the spacing between events, you need to run through the wizard again. The spacing of the events is stored in the reference route saved in the map document (.mxd). If the other properties in the current straight line diagram are the way you want, you can choose the .mxd with the diagram as the template when you use the wizard. In the wizard, the spacing between events is populated with the spacing values from the .mxd you choose as a template. Adjust the percentage values for the spacing to the values you want to use.
Add events to the diagram
If you want to add an event to a diagram, you need to run through the Generate Straight Line Diagram wizard again to create the reference line for that event. If the other properties in the current straight line diagram are the way you want, you can point to the .mxd with the diagram as the template when you use the wizard. In the wizard, the list of events is populated with the list and order from the .mxd you choose as a template. If the events you want to add do not appear in the list, click the Add button to add the event layer. If you want, you can also change the percentage values for the spacing between the events to accommodate the events that are added.
Remove events from the diagram
While you can turn off the visibility of events in the straight line diagram, this may cause gaps or irregular spacing between the events. If you want to remove an event and update the spacing, you need to run through the Generate Straight Line Diagram wizard again. If the other properties in the current straight line diagram are the way you want, you can point to the .mxd with the diagram as the template when you use the wizard. In the wizard, the list of events is populated with the list and order from the .mxd you choose as the template. Uncheck the events that you no longer want included in the straight line diagram. If you want, you can also change the percentage values for the spacing between the events to adjust for the events that are removed.
