Running the application for the first time
When you receive a mobile device from your project administrator, it should have ArcGIS for Windows Mobile installed. Your project administrator may have also deployed mobile projects to your device. Once you start the application and open a mobile project ( you may also need to complete the configuration of the Global Positioning System [GPS] if you're using a Windows Mobile device), you can start your field work.
Running the application on a Windows device
- Start the application by tapping the Windows Start menu, then select All programs > ArcGIS > ArcGIS for Windows Mobile folder and tap the ArcGIS application.
- If your project administrator hasn't provisioned any projects to the device, the No Projects Available screen appears as shown in the following screen shot:You can obtain projects by tapping the Download Project button (see Downloading projects for details) or directly copying projects from the machine that authors projects to your device (see Deploying a mobile project). Once one or more projects are available on the device, the Open Project page appears with a list of all available projects as shown in the following screen shot:
- Tap a project to open it.
Running the application on a Windows Mobile device
- Start the application by tapping the Windows Start menu > Programs.
- Browse to the ArcGIS application, then tap the shortcut to start the application.
- Similarly, if there is no project on the device or storage card (if applicable), the following screen appears:You can download projects by tapping the Download Project button (see Downloading projects for details) or directly copying projects from the machine that authors them (see (see Deploying a mobile project)).
- Once you have a project on your device, tap the project to open it. The GPS Settings page appears as shown in the following screen shot. The GPS Settings page appears only once: after you install the application and open the first project. Once you set up your GPS unit here, the information is saved with the application and will be reused later. The application will try to find the GPS port and pick up the baud rate for you, but you can change the settings if needed.
- When you complete the GPS settings, the Task List screen for the current project appears, and you can commence your field operation.
