Adding operational map layers

You can add operational map layers to your mobile project from one or more mobile services, hosted feature services and/or mobile caches. Operational map layers coming from mobile services or feature services allow field workers to synchronize data with the back-end database when connected, while operational map layers from a mobile cache use a checkout and check-in process with mobile geoprocessing tools used with ArcGIS for Desktop. For more detailed comparison of the server and the desktop workflows, see Desktop and Server workflows.

Adding map operational layers from a mobile service

Steps:
  1. Create or open a project in Mobile Project Center.
  2. Click the Add button Add and click Operational Layer from Mobile Service.
  3. On the Add Map Layers dialog box, provide the uniform resource locator (URL) of your ArcGIS Server (follow the format of the example URL on the screen), and click Connect.
    NoteNote:

Mobile Project Center supports services from ArcGIS Server version 10.0 and above, but if you intend to use attachments for your field operations, your mobile services need to be hosted in an ArcGIS Server version 10.1 or above.

  4. If you're not logged in to your ArcGIS Server, a red Log In icon Login icon appears. Provide credentials before you can see or use the secured services in the server. Click the icon, provide your credentials, then click Sign In.

If you log in successfully, the icon turns green and you can see the list of secured services that you can access.

  5. Click a mobile service and click Add.

The mobile service is added to your current project, with all layers from the service becoming operational map layers, and the map preview shows the content.

Adding operational map layers from a hosted feature service

Steps:
  1. Create or open a project in Mobile Project Center.
  2. Click the Add button Add and click Operational Layer from Feature Service.
  3. If you have not specified the URL of your organization in the Mobile Project Center setting (read Configuring Mobile Project Center application settings to know more), the ArcGIS Portal Settings window appears for you to provide the URL and credential to sign in, as shown in the image below. When finished, click OK and MPC saves the URL. If you check the Remember Me check box, MPC also saves your credential.

    CautionCaution:

If you are signing in to ArcGIS Online for organizations, the URL you specify must start with "https" instead of "http", for example: https://agol.maps.arcgis.com/sharing.

If you log in successfully, the Add Map Layers window appears with the list of feature services that you can access.

  4. Select a feature service and click Add.

The feature service is added to your current project, with all layers from the service becoming operational map layers, and the map preview shows the content.

Adding operational map layers from a mobile cache

Steps:
  1. Create or open a project in Mobile Project Center.
  2. Click the Add button Add and click Operational Layer from Mobile Cache.
  3. Browse to the location of your mobile cache folder and select the (ArcGIS Mobile Cache) .db file from the cache folder and click Open.

The mobile cache is added to your current project, with all layers from the cache becoming operational map layers, and the map preview shows the content.
