Supported layer and data types
Only a subset of the map layer types that you include in ArcMap is supported in a mobile service, hosted feature service, or mobile cache built by the Create Mobile Cache geoprocessing tool for ArcGIS for Windows Mobile. Note that there is a slight difference in the number of map layer types supported by a mobile service, hosted feature service, and mobile cache created using the mobile geoprocessing tool. Those supported layers include the following:
| ArcGIS layer type | Supported by mobile service | Supported by mobile cache created by GP tool | Supported by hosted feature service | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Feature layer (point, line, polygon) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Simple feature layers are fully supported. |
| Annotation layer | Yes | Yes | No | Mobile service and mobile cache created by the GP tool provides text-only support. For a hosted feature service, annotation layers are not supported. |
| Shapefile | Yes | Yes | Yes | For mobile service and mobile cache created by the GP tool, the shapefile is read-only and queryable. For a hosted feature service, shapefiles are fully supported. |
