ArcGIS for Desktop quick start guide
Getting started
- Prior to installation, review the ArcGIS for Desktop system requirements.
- Administrative privileges are required for installing this ArcGIS software product.
- The Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is required for installing ArcGIS for Desktop. The Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 can be downloaded from Microsoft. On Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2, the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 must be installed using Windows Features. See the install guide for more information.
- For help with installation, see the corresponding installation guide.
- IMPORTANT: Software patches are required before using ArcGIS 10.2.2. Patch details and downloads are available here.
Upgrading to ArcGIS 10.2.2
- The ArcGIS 10.2.2 setup package is designed to detect and upgrade an existing installation of the same ArcGIS 10.1 (including Service Pack 1 [SP1]), 10.2 or 10.2.1 product. The settings for the installation location, license manager (for Concurrent Use), or authorization information (for Single Use) are retained in the upgrade. See the installation guide for more information on installation upgrades, new installations, or installations over versions prior to 10.1.Note:
If an earlier version of ArcGIS VBA Compatibility is installed, it must be uninstalled prior to installing the version available at the 10.2.2 release.
- Existing ArcGIS 10.1 – 10.2 authorization numbers will work with ArcGIS 10.2.2.
- ArcGIS 10.2.2 for Single Use:
If ArcGIS 10.2.2 will be installed on a different machine than where ArcGIS 10.1, 10.2 or 10.2.1 is currently installed, and you wish to use the existing ArcGIS 10.1, 10.2 or 10.2.1 authorization for ArcGIS 10.2.2, the ArcGIS 10.1, 10.2 or 10.2.1 product must first be deauthorized before authorizing the ArcGIS 10.2.2 installation.
Obtaining software authorization numbers
If needed, your account's primary maintenance contact can obtain authorization numbers from the Customer Care website; click Authorization & Provisioning, and click a product name to obtain its authorization number. The license version on authorizations eligible for use with ArcGIS 10.2.2 will display as 10.1 – 10.2 on the Authorizations & Provisioning portal. For those outside the United States, contact your local distributor for information about your authorization numbers.
ArcGIS 10.2.2 License Manager
ArcGIS 10.2.2 for Desktop Concurrent Use requires ArcGIS 10.2.2 License Manager, which also supports ArcGIS 10.0, 10.1, 10.2 and 10.2.1. See the ArcGIS License Manager quick start guide and the ArcGIS License Manager reference guide for more information.
