Configuring HTTPS

As an administrator of your organization, you determine whether SSL is required for all transactions. As a security best practice, it is recommended that you enforce SSL so that all communication in your portal is sent using HTTPS. You'll need to configure both your portal and the web server hosting the ArcGIS Web Adaptor to allow communication through SSL only.

Turning on this option may affect the performance of your portal. Also, if you have shortcuts or bookmarks to the portal website that use HTTP, you'll need to update these to use HTTPS.

Follow the steps below to enforce SSL for all communication in your portal.

Steps:
  1. Log in to the portal website as an administrator and click the Edit Settings button.
  2. Click the Security link on the left side of the page.
  3. To only allow access to your portal through SSL, check the Allow access to the portal through SSL only check box. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) ensures that all network communication is encrypted; therefore, HTTPS is enforced for all communication within your portal.
  4. Click Save to apply your change.
  5. Enforce SSL on the web server hosting the Web Adaptor. For more information, see Enabling SSL on your web server.
