Stopping and starting the portal

When administering Portal for ArcGIS, occasionally you'll need to start and stop your portal to perform maintenance or configure advanced settings. The instructions vary depending on your operating system platform.

On Windows:

Your portal is powered by one Windows service, the Portal for ArcGIS service. You can view, stop, or start this service under Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

To stop the Portal for ArcGIS service, select it in the Services panel and click Stop the service. To start it, select Start the service.

On Linux:

Portal for ArcGIS runs as the account that was used to install the software. You'll need to log in to the machine hosting portal as the installation owner account and use the command line scripts stopportal.sh and startportal.sh to stop or start your portal. These scripts are located in the root folder of the Portal for ArcGIS installation directory.
