Frequently asked questions about Esri MapStudio

General questions

I exported to Adobe Illustrator, but all text comes in with white labels. How do I fix this?

Esri MapStudio text uses legacy text in Adobe Illustrator. When opening the file in Adobe Illustrator, ensure you click Update. This allows Adobe Illustrator to convert the text for compatibility.

I created a marker layer and exported my map. Where are my markers?

When you create a marker layer, you need to save the marker layer for the markers to appear in the export. Even if you save the map, you need to save the marker layer.

In Adobe Illustrator, the markers have an opaque background; however, when I exported, the markers were transparent in Esri MapStudio. How do I make the markers have a transparent background?

Esri MapStudio provides the proper GIS location for places in your map. When you export to Adobe Illustrator, you can design the markers and images custom to your audience. You can replace the images in Adobe Illustrator with images that have transparent backgrounds.

You can download all Esri MapStudio markers that have a transparent background to use in conjunction with the steps below. To download the Esri MapStudio markers, see https://mapstudio.esri.com/mapstudio/markers.zip.

To make the marker layers in Adobe Illustrator transparent, you will need to do the following:

  1. Export to Adobe Illustrator.
  2. Open the export in Adobe Illustrator.
  3. When prompted, click Update.
  4. Click the Window menu.
