Signing in to Portal for ArcGIS from ArcMap
To access data and maps in Portal for ArcGIS or to publish hosted services to Portal for ArcGIS from ArcMap, you must sign in to the portal if you are using the local identity store.
If your portal is configured to use Windows authentication, you are automatically signed in to the portal when you open ArcMap.
Before you can sign in, you must connect ArcGIS for Desktop to your portal. See Managing portal connections from ArcGIS for Desktop for more information.
-
In ArcMap, click File > Sign In.
The Portal for ArcGIS Sign In dialog box opens.
- Type the name and password of a valid login for the portal ArcGIS for Desktop is using.Tip:
If you do not have an account, click the Get new account link. This takes you to the portal sign in page. Click Create an account to create a new user name and password to connect to the portal. Once you have an account, go back to ArcMap to connect to the portal using your new account.
- Optionally, you can check one or more of the following:
- Remember my name—Saves the user name you provide. The next time you open ArcMap, the user name will appear in the Name field of the Portal for ArcGIS Sign In dialog box.
- Remember my password—Saves the password you provide.
- Sign me in automatically—You will connect automatically to the portal the next time you open ArcMap from the same machine. When you choose this option, both your user name and password are saved.
Saving your user name and password with ArcMap is less secure than logging in each time; only check these options if no one else has access to your machine.
- Click Sign In to connect to the portal.
