About web application templates
Web application templates let you create applications that include one or more web maps. You can use templates to create applications and publish them directly to your portal. You can also download template ZIP files to configure applications and host them on your own web server. For a more customized experience, you can create your own application templates that your organization can use for publishing web applications. These templates can include configurable parameters that let members customize elements of their application.
There are a variety of applications available that are suited for a specific purpose, goal, or organizational strategy. For example, there are applications that are tailored for editing features and parcels, displaying and animating time-aware data, viewing elevation profiles, viewing multiple maps side by side, and more. By reviewing the description for each template and previewing it in the map viewer, you can gain a better understanding of which template to use for your specific web map.
Publish applications
Using the web application templates, you can create your own applications that are hosted on your portal. Start with a web map you've created or found, then choose one of the many templates available in the web mapping template gallery in the map viewer. Some of the templates let you configure the application to create a customized look and feel. Once you have found a template you like, you can publish it directly to your portal. For more information about publishing applications, see Publishing applications from web maps.
Download and configure applications
You can create your own application from a shared web map by downloading and configuring one of the templates in the map viewer. The template ZIP file contains all the files and instructions you need to customize and deploy the application to your own web server. For more information about configuring and deploying applications, see Downloading web application templates.
Create and configure your own templates
You may want to extend the customization options of templates, for example, by adding your organization's logo or color scheme to a set of existing templates. Likewise, your organization may also already have a web application with functionality specific to your industry that you would like to make into a template. You can do this by creating your own templates. For more information on developing custom templates, see Creating web application templates.
You can also extend the functionality of your own templates by adding configurable options to the template. This allows you to customize the appearance and behavior of your application. For more information on developing custom configurable templates, see Adding configurable parameters to templates.
