How to apply size to point feature symbology
To apply size to point feature symbology in ArcScene, follow the steps below.
When applying size by providing an expression, it is important to know this is the same as using an attribute field. So the drop-down list on the Size dialog box lists the attribute field name used in the expression instead of <expression>. You can also choose to save an expression to an expression file (*.cal) by clicking Save on Expression Builder. This can be useful in cases when you have complex expressions. You can reload the expression file for reuse by clicking Load on Expression Builder and browsing to its saved location on disk.
- Right-click the point layer in the table of contents.
- Click Properties and click the Symbology tab.
-
Click Advanced and choose Size from the drop-down list.

The Size dialog box opens.
- Choose the attribute field that contains the size from the Fields drop-down list.
-
You can optionally apply the following size properties:
Size by expression
Choose <expression> in the Fields drop-down list.
Click the Expression Builder button to provide the expression to use for sizing the symbols.
Size by random values
Choose <random> in the Fields drop-down list.
Random values will be generated between the minimum and maximum random values specified. You can apply restrictions to the minimum and maximum random values by supplying your own upper and lower limits to the random value boxes on the dialog box.
-
Click OK on all dialog boxes.

- If you want to change the values in the size field, start a 3D edit session. You can update the size values by interactively resizing individual point symbols with the Edit Placement tool on the 3D Editor toolbar in ArcScene. You can also just type new values in the attribute table or the Attributes window.
- To remove any size applied to the feature symbology, you can choose <none> from the drop-down list available on the Size dialog box.
- To size feature symbology without taking a size from a field, double-click the marker symbol in the table of contents and set its size property. Without a size field, all symbols will be drawn at the same size.
