Upgrading a mosaic dataset
Mosaic datasets are versioned. The following table describes how they are supported:
ArcGIS Version | 10.0 mosaic dataset | 10.1 mosaic dataset |
---|---|---|
10.0 | Full (read/modify/create) | Not supported |
10.1 | Read-only | Full (read/modify/create) |
To get the full functionality of the dataset at the current release, you can upgrade a mosaic dataset using the Upgrade Dataset tool.

Any mosaic datasets that were created in ArcGIS version 10 should be moved to a current file geodatabase. A current geodatabase uses out-of-line storage, which will reduce database inflation. To achieve this, copy your 10.0 mosaic dataset and paste it into a new file geodatabase.
Steps:
- Open the Upgrade Dataset tool.
- Enter the mosaic dataset to be upgraded to the current release.
- Click OK.
