Applying pan-sharpening to a raster layer in ArcMap
Panchromatic sharpening uses a higher-resolution panchromatic raster layer to fuse with a lower-resolution multiband raster layer. The result produces a multiband raster layer with the resolution of the panchromatic raster where the two raster layers fully overlap.
You can use the Pan-sharpen button on the Image Analysis window, or you can modify the layer properties to pan sharpen an image.
Steps:
- In ArcMap, add the lower-resolution color image to the map using the Add Data button .
- Right-click the raster layer in the table of contents and click Properties.
- Click the Symbology tab.
- Click RGB Composite on the Show menu.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Properties list and check Pan-sharpening.
- Click the Panchromatic Image drop-down arrow and click an image name or click the browse button and select the higher-resolution image.

Click the Pan-sharpening Type drop-down list and choose the desired color transformation.

- Optionally, type a weight value for each of the red, green, blue, and infrared bands.
- Optionally, if the fourth band of your raster dataset is the infrared band and you want to use it, then you need to check the 4th-band as Infrared Image check box.
- Click OK.
Tip:
It is a good idea to set the display resampling to bilinear interpolation. It will make the output pan-sharpened image less pixelated. The display resampling can be accessed on the Layer Properties dialog box, under the Display tab.
