Scripting geodatabase creation in DB2 on Linux, UNIX, or Windows

You can copy and alter an example script to create a geodatabase in an existing IBM DB2 database on a Linux, UNIX, or Windows server.

There are additional tasks you must complete before running the script. Those tasks and the script itself are described in the following steps:

Steps:
  1. Install and configure DB2 on your server.
  2. Create an operating system login named sde on the DB2 server.
  3. Add the sde user to a group with SYSMON authority.
  4. Create a database and register it with Spatial Extender.
  5. Grant DBADM on the database to the sde user.
  6. If you will be running the Python script from a different computer than the DB2 server, install and configure the DB2 client on the computer from which you will run the script.

The DB2 client installation can be downloaded from the Esri Customer Care Portal. If you are installing the DB2 client to run with a 32-bit ArcGIS client, install a 32-bit version of the DB2 client. If you are installing the DB2 client to run with ArcGIS Server, install a 64-bit version of the DB2 client. See Setting up a connection to DB2 for more information.

  7. Copy the example script to the Python window in ArcGIS Desktop or to any Python IDE, such as PythonWin or WING, on a computer where ArcGIS Desktop (ArcEditor or ArcInfo), ArcGIS Server (Standard or Advanced), or ArcGIS Engine with the Geodatabase Update extension is installed.

This example script enables geodatabase functionality in an existing DB2 database:

    """
    Name: enable_enterprise_gdb.py
Description: Provide connection information to an enterprise database
    and enable enterprise geodatabase.
Type enable_enterprise_gdb.py -h or enable_enterprise_gdb.py --help for usage
    Author: Esri
    """

  9. Run the script you copied and altered.

A log file for the geodatabase creation (GDBCreateGeodatabase<#>.log) is written to the directory specified for your TEMP or TMP variable on the computer where the script is run.
