Creating keyframes of camera or map view properties

Creating a keyframe is similar to taking a snapshot of the properties of an object or objects that a track is bound to. Using the Create Animation Keyframe dialog box, you can create keyframes to build an animation that navigates a scene or globe or zooms in and out or pans around a map.

For example, if keyframes are being created for a camera of the main viewer in ArcScene or ArcGlobe, the keyframes created will represent snapshots of the camera's location. The first keyframe will be created at the current position, and additional keyframes can be added by navigating to new positions and creating them as needed. After adding the required keyframes, the resultant track generates a smooth animation by interpolating changes from keyframe to keyframe.

TipTip:

On the Create Animation Keyframe dialog box, create multiple keyframes with the same properties (such as the same camera position), then modify the keyframe properties on the Keyframes tab of the Animation Manager.

You can also create keyframes on the Keyframes tab of the Animation Manager. Click Create to invoke the Create Animation Keyframe dialog box from the Keyframes tab.

Steps:
  1. If the Animation toolbar is not present in your application, click Customize on the Main menu of the application, point to Toolbars, then click Animation.
  2. Navigate to the camera (ArcGlobe or ArcScene) or map view (ArcMap) position you want to capture.
  3. Click the Animation drop-down arrow and click Create Keyframe Create Keyframe.
  4. Click the Type drop-down arrow and choose Camera (ArcScene), Globe Camera (ArcGlobe), or Map View (ArcMap).
  5. Click New to create a new track with a default name, or type a name for a new track in the Destination track text box and click New.
  6. Click Create to create a keyframe.
    TipTip:

If the Create button is not available, click the New button. When you type a name for a new track, you have to click New to establish it as a new track. The Create button will then become available.

  7. Navigate to a new position and create a new keyframe.
  8. Repeat step 7 until you have created all the keyframes necessary for your animation.

You need at least two keyframes to create a track that will show change.

  9. Click Close.
