Viewing directions
Viewing directions requires an organizational account. For more information, see Creating an account.
Using the ArcGIS.com map viewer, you can view directions between two or more locations. You can also create a round-trip route and optimize the order of your destinations. The units of the directions are based on the regional setting of your organization. The United States region sets the units to miles and feet. All other regions set the units to meters and kilometers.
Follow the steps below to view driving directions between two or more locations:
- Verify that you are signed in with an organizational account.
- Open the ArcGIS.com map viewer.
- Click the Directions button to display the Directions panel to the left of the map.
- Create your route by adding the following information:
- Enter the start location in the A field .
- Enter the finish location in the B field .
- To change the start and finish destinations, click the Reverse Directions button . The Reverse Directions button only appears if you have two destinations; if you have more than two destinations, you can manually reverse the directions by reordering the route.
- To add additional destinations, click the Add destination link and enter an address in the new field.
- To reorder the route, drag and drop one or more of your destinations in the order you want.
- If you have four or more destinations and want the ArcGIS.com map viewer to optimize your route, click the Show options link and check the box next to Optimize order.
- To create a round-trip route, click the Show options link and check the box next to Return to start.
- Click the Get Directions button to display text directions and the route within the map.
When you use the Find locator at the top of the ArcGIS.com map viewer to find a specific location, the pop-up window that appears on the map includes a Get Directions link. Click the link to automatically fill in location information for a destination. You can add additional destinations to the route the same way—find a location on the map and use the Get Directions link to fill in location information in the destination field.
Once you get directions, you can print the directions and interact with the route map. The route and directions are not saved with the map.
- Click the Print button to create a printer-friendly version of the text directions.
- If you open the Details panel (to view details, contents, or legend), click the Directions button to get back to the Directions panel.
- Click the View Full Route link to zoom the map back to the full extent of the route.
