Publishing a hosted tiled map service using a hosted feature service

SubscriptionSubscription:

Publishing hosted services requires an account with that is part of an ArcGIS Online organization. See Getting started for more information.

You can publish a hosted tiled map service using an existing hosted feature service. This is a useful workflow if you do not have ArcGIS products installed locally. For example, you may publish a shapefile as a hosted feature service then publish that feature service as a tiled map service.

The feature service must use the WGS 1984 Web Mercator (Auxiliary Sphere) coordinate system or its equivalent.

Follow these steps to publish a hosted tiled map service from a hosted feature service.

Steps:
  1. Log in to your ArcGIS.com organizational account and click My Content.
  2. Click the hosted feature service that you want to publish as a tiled map service.

This opens the item details page for the feature service.

  3. Click the Publish button.
  4. Type a title, tags, and summary and choose a folder for the service.
  5. Choose a scale range at which tiles will be allowed to be generated.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Check the boxes next to the scales at which you would like to generate tiles. Then click Create Tiles.
    CautionCaution:

Including large scales in your scale range can vastly increase the number of credits consumed by tile generation and storage. Don't create tiles beyond the precision of your data.

  8. Review the message about how many tiles will be created. If you still want to proceed, click Yes, create tiles.
