Web map client capabilities
ArcGIS has several stand-alone client viewers and applications you can use to view web maps in web browsers, mobile devices, and desktop map viewers. Most clients let you navigate location-specific places, view information about the attributes on the map, see legends and scales, go to bookmarked places, and print. Some clients offer additional functionality such as filtering the map display by who edited features and when.
ArcGIS.com map viewer
Use ArcGIS.com map viewer, the lightweight map viewer built into the website, to author and view interactive web maps. You can set the area of interest, choose a basemap, add data layers, configure pop-up windows, change the display, save your maps, and share them with others. A mobile version of the viewer automatically opens in your iOS, Android, and Blackberry device, providing an optimized view of web maps on your mobile device. The ArcGIS.com map viewer is free and only requires a web browser and an Internet connection.
Operations Dashboard
Operations Dashboard provides an organization a common operating picture to monitor and respond to day-to-day to events. It uses responsive maps, dynamic (and static) data sources to create operational views that include charts, lists, gauges, and indicators, which update automatically as underlying data changes. Available on Windows desktops and Intel-based Windows tablet devices, Operations Dashboard is a self-updating Windows application that can be installed directly from a click of a link within an ArcGIS Online organization without the need of administrator rights. Download Operations Dashboard.
Collector
Collector for ArcGIS provides an intuitive data collection experience that improves field productivity. Field crews can collect data using GPS or by tapping on the map. In addition, they can plan routes and get directions to work locations, use intelligent data-driven forms to improve data quality, capture photos and video of assets, and seamlessly integrate information back into the organization's GIS. Collector can also be configured to use various tools that help tailor the data collection workflow to the organization's business needs. Collector is designed specifically for Apple iPhone and Google Android phone.
ArcGIS Explorer Desktop
With ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, you can view web maps and download and view layer packages from the ArcGIS.com website; you can also include KML, GPS logs, shapefiles, and other data sources directly into your map without importing, retaining the reference to the original data source. You can also view maps in 3D.
ArcGIS for Desktop
Use ArcGIS for Desktop for professional GIS work that extends beyond the capabilities of the free viewers. In addition to viewing and creating maps, ArcGIS for Desktop is intended for editing and managing geographic databases, performing full-powered analysis, creating geographic models, and working with a wide range of data types.
ArcGIS for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone
ArcGIS for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone extends the reach of ArcGIS to a broad range of smartphone and tablet devices. Leverage the ArcGIS applications found in Apple App Store, Google Play, Amazon Appstore for Android, or the Windows Phone Marketplace to connect to your organization, discover and navigate maps, collect and report data, search and measure, and perform GIS analysis on your smartphone or tablet device.
