Joining groups

If you see a Join this Group button in the upper right of a group's details page, you can send the group owner a request to join the group. As a member, you can access all the items shared to the group, which may include some items not shared with the organization or the public. In addition, you may be able to share your maps and apps with the group if the group owner allows member contributions. Check the group details to see.

NoteNote:

You cannot join groups owned by somebody with a different type of account than you have. If you have a public account, you cannot join groups owned by organizational accounts. If you have an organizational account, you cannot join groups owned by public accounts. For more information, see What should you share?

If you don't see a Join this Group button, the group doesn't accept membership requests. The group owner can invite you to the group (if you both have the same type of account—organizational or public) but you can't initiate a request through the website. For more information, see Owning groups.

To join a group, follow the steps below.

  1. Verify that you are logged in.
  2. Open the details for the group you are interested in joining.
  3. Click the Join This Group button.
  4. Click the Submit Request button in the window that appears.

The owner of the group sees your request on the group's details page and accepts or denies your membership. If the owner accepts your request, you are automatically added as a member, and the group appears on your Groups page.

You can check the status of your request in the Notifications window.
