Editing the aeronautical scale bar (Aeronautical Solution)
The aeronautical scale bar can be edited using the Size and Position and the Scale and Divisions tabs on the Aeronautical Scale Bar Properties dialog box. Scale, place-names, orientation, and the panel letter, as well as other properties, can be defined and edited.
- Start ArcMap.
- On the main menu, click View > Layout View.
- If there is no aeronautical scale bar in the layout, add one to the map.
-
Right-click the aeronautical scale bar and click Properties.
The Aeronautical Scale Bar <#> Properties dialog box appears.
Note:
A number displays on the dialog box to identify specific scale bars if multiple scale bars are present in the document.
- Click the Scale and Divisions tab.
- If necessary, type a new value in the Scale text box.
-
Type a value in the Division Value text box.
This value represents the number of major divisions within the scale bar.
-
Choose an option for the orientation.
This determines where the place-name text appears relative to the bar. You can choose Top or Bottom.
- Type the starting place-name on the chart in the Placename (Left) text box.
- Type the ending place-name on the chart in the Placename (Right) text box.
- Click the Letter drop-down arrow and choose a different panel letter.
- Click Edit Scale Bar Settings to open the scale bar settings previously configured on the Aeronautical Scale Bar dialog box accessible from the Production Properties dialog box.
The changes made to these settings are only applied to the selected scale bar when accessed through this manner.
- Optionally click Reset to Aeronautical Settings to restore the default settings for the scale bar.
This resets the settings of the current scale bar to the parameters on the Aeronautical Scale Bar dialog box, overriding any changes previously made to the selected scale bar.
- Click the Size and Position tab.
-
Modify the size and position information as necessary.
Tip:
You can also resize the element in the page layout.
- Click the Area tab.
- Modify the unit of measure information as necessary.
-
Click OK when you are finished editing.
Note:
The element can also be edited in the page layout; however, only the number of divisions and the height of the divisions can be edited. The text and other properties cannot change from the specification.
