Disabling archiving

Disabling archiving stops the automatic updating of the archive class when edits are saved or posted to the DEFAULT version.

When you disable archiving, you will be prompted to save or discard the archive class for each enabled class in the dataset. If you choose not to delete the associated archive class when you disable archiving, you preserve the table in the geodatabase as a temporal table with the appropriate From and To attributes.

Tips on disabling archiving

• Archiving must be disabled on a class before it can be unregistered as versioned.
• Deleting a feature dataset or class with archiving enabled preserves the archive class.

Steps:

1. To disable archiving, right-click the object class or dataset in the Catalog tree and click Archiving > Disable Archiving.

   The following message appears when you disable archiving:

   

2. You have several choices for preserving or deleting archive tables.
   • If you want to delete the archive class associated with this dataset, click Yes.
   • Click No to preserve the archive class as a temporal table with gdb_from_date and gdb_to_date attributes, which you may still query and view in ArcMap.
   • Click Yes to All if you want this and all subsequent archive classes deleted.
   • Click No to All if you want to preserve this and all subsequent archive classes as temporal tables.
   • Click Cancel to exit the disabling operation with no action taken.
