What are user accounts?
User accounts are unique names and passwords used to identify a person or client application that connects to your geodatabase. User accounts perform the following functions:
- Provide a way to control what type of access (if any) a person or client application has to a geodatabase and its datasets
- Determine who owns what data in the database
When you create your user accounts and database roles, do not use delimiters, such as quotation marks, to force the creation of a name that contains characters or casing not supported by the underlying database. If a database object, such as a user name, is created using delimiters, delimiters must be used when the database is queried for that object. ArcGIS does not place delimiters around object names when querying the database. Therefore, if the database does not support the characters in your undelimited user account or role name, your connection to the database from ArcGIS will fail.
