Compatibility Notes

Esri Tracking Server and ArcGIS Engine for Windows

Esri Tracking Server 10.1 supports ArcGIS Engine for Windows 10.1. The installer for Tracking Server 10.1 ships with ArcGIS Engine for Windows 10.1. If ArcGIS Engine for Windows 10.1 is not already installed, then a bundled installer will be used to install ArcGIS Engine for Windows 10.1. If ArcGIS Engine for Windows 10.1 is already installed, the Tracking Server 10.1 installer will recognize it and install using the existing software.

Esri Tracking Server and the ArcGIS Tracking Analyst extension

Because of code upgrades and concurrent version changes, Tracking Analyst versions prior to 10.1 should not be used to view real-time services with Tracking Server 10.1.

CautionCaution:

If you have ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 installed, you MUST upgrade to ArcGIS for Desktop 10.1 in order to install Tracking Server 10.1 on the same machine.

Tracking Server and ArcGIS Online

ArcGIS Online is not required in order for Esri Tracking Server to function properly, and it does not need to be accessible from Tracking Server. However, ArcGIS Online may be used with Tracking Server to act as the background map image server for the Tracking Viewer Web-based client.

If you use the ArcGIS Tracking Analyst extension as a client, you do not need ArcGIS Online to produce the background map. You may use local shapefiles or other map sources as you normally would in ArcMap. If you use the Tracking Viewer, or other Web-based clients, you can use ArcGIS Online to serve up the background map.

Tracking Server and MOLE

Military Overlay Editor (MOLE) is no longer widely available at version 10.1. If you need MOLE 10.1 in order to support your tracking needs with Esri Tracking Server, it can be provided on demand. Please contact Esri Customer Support to request a copy of MOLE 10.1.

Custom Coordinate Systems

Beginning at 10.1, Esri Tracking Server is changing the way it manages coordinate systems. For most users, this change will not be noticed at all. But users who need to use custom coordinate systems with tracking data will notice an improvement. In previous versions of Tracking Server, it was necessary to manually copy custom coordinate system projection files into a Coordinate Systems folder in the Tracking Server installation location. Now, custom coordinate systems can be easily added through the Tracking Server Manager interface.
