The ArcGIS 10.2.x GeoEvent Processor for Server installer is designed to detect and upgrade an existing installation of ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor for Server on the target system. If you deployed any additional custom or downloaded components, including adapters, transports, processors, and so forth, you will need to back them up before starting the upgrade process and redeploy them after the upgrade is complete. In some cases, you will need to rebuild custom components using the ArcGIS 10.2.x GeoEvent Processor Software Development Kit.

This section addresses common questions about the upgrade behavior of ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor for Server.

Do I need to uninstall a previous release of ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor for Server before installing ArcGIS 10.2.x GeoEvent Processor for Server?

No. If you already have an existing release of ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor for Server installed, the setup will automatically upgrade it to ArcGIS 10.2.x GeoEvent Processor for Server without any additional configuration. Additionally, you can install ArcGIS 10.2.x GeoEvent Processor for Server without having a previous release of ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor for Server installed on your machine.

Do I need to back up anything before installing ArcGIS 10.2.x GeoEvent Processor for Server?

Yes. It is recommended that you create a backup of your GeoEvent Processor configuration as well as your deployed components.

To back up your GeoEvent Processor configuration, use the ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor Manager to export your configuration as an XML file. Optionally back up the GeoEventProcessor configuration folder at one of the following locations:

  • Windows XP/Server 2003: %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Esri\GeoEventProcessor

    This applies to 10.2.1 and earlier releases. Windows XP and Server 2003 are no longer supported at 10.2.2.

To back up your deployed components, copy the deploy subfolder from your GeoEvent Processor installation location, located at <arcgis-server-install-location>\GeoEventProcessor\, to a backup folder. The default installation location is %ProgramFiles%\ArcGIS\Server\GeoEventProcessor.

Do I need to stop my GIS services and ArcGIS Server before installing ArcGIS 10.2.x GeoEvent Processor for Server?

The setup will restart the GIS services and ArcGIS Server after the installation.

If I upgrade to ArcGIS 10.2.x for Server, do I need to upgrade to ArcGIS 10.2.x GeoEvent Processor for Server?

Yes. The release of ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor for Server must match ArcGIS for Server. You cannot run mismatched releases of the software on the same machine.
