What's new
Data and Maps for Server (2012) has the following improvements and enhancements:
General
ArcGIS 10.1 for Server is required to publish these services. If you previously used services from Esri Data & Maps for Server 10, you must upgrade to ArcGIS 10.1 for Server to use the services included on Data and Maps for Server (2012). For more information, see What to expect when migrating to ArcGIS 10.1 for Server for Windows in ArcGIS 10.1 for Server Help under Services > ArcGIS for Server (Windows) > Introducing ArcGIS for Server > Migration to ArcGIS 10.1 for Server or What to expect when migrating to ArcGIS 10.1 for Server for Linux in ArcGIS 10.1 for Server Help under Services > ArcGIS for Server (Linux) > Introducing ArcGIS for Server > Migration to ArcGIS 10.1 for Server.
New services
- The World Light Gray Base canvas map was added. This basemap provides a neutral background for your data with minimal colors, labels, and features. The map shows political boundaries, populated places, water, roads, urban areas, and parks.
- The World Light Gray Reference canvas map was added. This reference layer complements the World Light Gray Base by providing labels for selected cities and towns around the world.

The following services that were included in the previous release, Esri Data & Maps for Server 10, are retired from Data and Maps for Server (2012):
- World Physical Map
