Status bar
The ArcPad status bar displays important information about your map and your device. It can be toggled on and off by enabling or disabling the tool on the Main toolbar, or by setting the option to enabled or disabled manually in the ArcPadPrefs.apx file.

The status bar shows the following:
- Current coordinates—These are the coordinates of your cursor, either the coordinates of your mouse hover or the coordinates of a pen tap on the screen. You can choose the format of the map coordinates displayed in the status bar from the Display tab on the ArcPad Options dialog box. The default choice is Auto—that is, let ArcPad decide the appropriate format—or you can explicitly choose Projection, DMS, DMM, UTM, or MGRS.
- Scale—This is the current map scale that changes when you use the zoom in and zoom out tools on the Browse toolbar, or when you set the desired scale on the Map Properties dialog box.
- Rocker status—The rocker refers to the hardware button found on most Windows Mobile devices that have an up/down, left/right, in/out action. Pushing the rocker in toggles the mode. Moving the rocker up or down performs the zoom or pan. In Z mode, the rocker is a fixed zoom in/out; H indicates horizontal pan, and V indicates vertical pan.
Both scale and rocker status also act as shortcuts to more information. If you double-tap the scale, the Map Properties dialog box appears, allowing you explicitly set the scale in which you want your map to display.
Double-tapping the rocker status displays the memory indicators.

Memory indicators
Memory indicators troubleshoot ArcPad issues. If they are already displayed, double-tapping the rock status again removes them from the display.
Once the indicators appear, you may see one or two bar graphs.
You see one bar graph if the physical available memory is greater than the memory required by ArcPad (that is, more than 32MB free memory).

If there are two bar graphs, you can see how much physical memory is available and how much virtual memory is available (the second graph has a V for virtual on the memory icon). The amount of physical memory is equal to or less than the amount of virtual memory.

The Lo Mem (low memory) indicator automatically appears even if the memory status is off, under the following three conditions:
- If there is less than 1MB free, a red indicator displays.
- If there is less than 2MB free, an orange indicator displays.
- If there is less than 3MB free, a yellow indicator displays.

A red bar indicates a critical operating state due to low memory. Make more memory available by closing other applications.
On a Windows Mobile device, the total virtual memory for a process (for example, ArcPad) is always 32MB. To verify the total memory, review the System Information on the About page in ArcPad.
