Installing ArcPad on Windows
Installation media content
The items available for download from the Esri Customer Care website, or from the ArcPad DVD, are as follows:
- Setup executable—Installation program for ArcPad, ArcPad Studio, and Help documentation.
Installing ArcPad
To install ArcPad, follow these steps:
- Close all applications on your Windows computer.
- Establish a synchronization connection between your Windows computer and Windows Mobile device (only required if you intend to install ArcPad on Windows Mobile).
If autorun has been disabled for your (real or virtual) DVD drive, use Windows Explorer to locate the setup executable file (EXE) on your installation media. Double-click the executable to start the installation.
- Insert the ArcPad installation media and follow the instructions on the screen.
The following list describes all of the actions that are performed during install:
- ArcPad, ArcPad Studio, Datum Configuration Tool, and the Deployment Manager are installed on your Windows computer.
Note:
The Deployment Manager will be automatically launched after installing ArcPad on your Windows computer. You can choose which component to install onto your connected Windows Mobile device, then click Deploy to install the selected components. For more details, see Installing ArcPad on Windows Mobile.
- esri_11.ttf, esri_30.ttf, esri_49.ttf, and esri_144.ttf fonts are copied into the \\Windows\Fonts folder if they do not already exist.
- The folder \\My Documents\My ArcPad\ is created for ArcPad configuration files.
- The folder \\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcPad with the following subfolders and content is created:
- Applets—ArcPad searches this folder for applets to load on start-up. The ArcPad StreetMap applet files are copied into this folder during installation.
- CABs—All Windows Mobile installation files.
- Coordinate System—All available projection files.
- DesktopTools9.3—The ArcPad Data Manager for ArcGIS 9.3 Desktop.
- DesktopTools10.0—The ArcPad Data Manager for ArcGIS 10.x Desktop.
- Developer—Documentation and object model.
- Extensions—ArcPad searches this folder for extensions to load on start-up. The ArcPad StreetMap extension files are copied into this folder during installation.
- Help—Documentation and multilanguage help.
- Icons—ArcPad application icons (includes the icons for ArcPad 8.0 and earlier).
- Locales—The language dynamic link library (DLL) files for each localization.
- Modules—ArcPad built-in modules.
- Scripts—Common scripts required for SmartForms.
- Sqlce—Windows and Windows Mobile Sqlce installation files.
- Styles—ArcPad searches this folder for style sheets.
- System—NADCON and HARN datum transformations and the projection database.
Note:
The folder \\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcPad is referred to as the installation folder in ArcPad documentation. ArcPad, ArcPad Studio, Datum Configuration Tool, and Deployment Manager are located in the installation folder.
- The folder \\ArcPad\ with the following subfolders and contents is created inside your Public or Shared Documents folder:
- Applets—ArcPad searches this folder for applets to load on start-up. Place applets that all users of the Windows computer will edit and use here.
- Extensions—ArcPad searches this folder for extensions to load on start-up. Place extensions that all users of the Windows computer will use here.
- Samples—All ArcPad sample data.
- Styles—Place your custom style sheets that all users of the Windows computer will use here.
- System—Contains the DefaultTransforms.dbf and Transforms.dbf files used to customize ArcPad datum transformation choices.
- Templates—ArcPad searches this folder to display a list of available QuickProject templates. Place your own templates that all users of the Windows computer will use here.
- Start Menu items are created for ArcPad, ArcPad Studio, Datum Configuration Tool, Deployment Manager, and all Help resources.
