Supported mobile devices

ArcPad 10.2 supports the following Windows operating systems: Windows 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP, and Windows Mobile. ArcPad does not support specific Windows Mobile devices, but instead supports specific Windows Mobile versions and processor chips. ArcPad is designed to run on any Windows Mobile device that uses a supported processor chip and meets the minimum requirements for memory and scripting.

Windows Mobile version

ArcPad supports Windows Mobile 5 through 6.5. ArcPad supports the Pocket PC and Pocket PC Phone Edition form factors; it does not support the Smartphone form factor.

Processor chip

Windows Mobile devices are built using a variety of processors, or CPU chips. Unlike desktop PCs where processor chips are compatible—for example, Intel and AMD chips—processor chips used for Windows Mobile devices are not compatible and require that software be compiled specifically for the particular processor chip

ArcPad 10.2 only supports ARM-based CPU chips for Windows Mobile devices. ARM-based CPU chips include, but are not limited to, chips made by Intel (StrongARM and XScale), Samsung, Texas Instruments, and Atmel.

Memory

ArcPad requires a Windows Mobile device with at least 64 MB of RAM, and preferably additional RAM if available.

ArcPad and each of its companion applications (StreetMap and ArcLogistics Navigator) have the ability to consume up to 32 MB of RAM. If you intend to use ArcPad, Streetmap, and ArcLogistics Navigator, 96 MB of RAM is the recommended minimum requirement.

The amount of free RAM required to install and run ArcPad alone depends on the type of data that will be used. Running ArcPad can require 20 MB or more of free RAM, especially if you're using compressed images in formats such as MrSID and JPEG2000.

Scripting (customization only)

ArcPad can be customized using ArcPad Studio and scripting languages, such as VBScript, JScript and Python (Python supported on Windows only). The corresponding scripting runtime library file must be installed on the device before running scripts. The JScript runtime library is already installed on most devices, while ArcPad automatically installs the VBScript runtime library when installing ArcPad. Customization of ArcPad is disabled when running ArcPad on a device that does not have the required scripting runtime library installed.
