How to install NetBeans ArcGIS plug-ins


Summary
The Esri ArcGIS for Server Java Web Application Developer Framework (ADF) plug-ins for NetBeans IDE 6.x can be downloaded and installed via the Esri NetBeans Update Center. You can access the update center by clicking Tools>Plugins in the main menu of your NetBeans integrated development environment (IDE). The plug-ins allow you to develop Esri geographic information system (GIS) Web applications.

Prerequisites

The following software must be installed before you install and use the ArcGIS plug-in for NetBeans: 

Downloading and installing the plug-in

To set up the NetBeans Esri update center and install the plug-in on a supported platform for the first time, follow these steps:
  1. Click Tools>Plugins from the main menu of the IDE. The Plugins dialog box appears. See the following screen shot:
  1. On the Plugins dialog box, click the Settings tab.
  2. On the Settings tab, click the Add button and add the update center on the Update Center Customizer dialog box. The URL for the update center is http://downloads.esri.com/edn/java/plugins/netbeans/v93/updates.xml. See the following screen shots:
  1. Click OK and click the Available Plugins tab on the Plugins dialog box:
  2. In the list of available plug-ins, check the Install check box associated with your ArcGIS Java ADF plug-in. This will enable the Install button. See the following screen shot:
  1. Click Install. The NetBeans IDE installer dialog box appears as shown in the following screen shot: 
  1. Click Next to confirm that the Esri ArcGIS Java ADF for NetBeans plug-in will be installed.
  2. Read and accept the terms of the license agreement displayed and click Install.
  3. After the installation completes, select Restart the IDE Now and click Finish.
NetBeans will close and restart with the ArcGIS plug-ins installed.

Updating  a previous install

To update an existing version of a plug-in already installed in your NetBeans IDE v6.x, follow these steps: 
  1. Click Tools->Plugins from the main menu of the IDE.
  2. In the Plugins dialog box, click the Updates tab if it is not already selected.
  3. Click Reload Catalog on the Updates tab.
  4. Locate the plug-ins under the Esri category.
  5. Check the Update check box or boxes for the Esri plug-in. 
  6. Click Update. The NetBeans IDE Installer window appears listing the plug-ins that will be updated.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Read and accept the terms of the license agreement displayed.
  9. Click Install. The installation progress is displayed.
  10. After the installation is complete, select Restart IDE Now, and click Finish.
NetBeans will close and restart with the ArcGIS plug-ins updated to the latest version.
