Census 2010 and American Community Survey (ACS)

All data users will face vast changes in data access in 2011. Census 2010 and the annual American Community Survey (ACS) are providing new opportunities and challenges. This page focuses on information about Census 2010 and ACS data access, applications, integration and analysis.

Census 2010

The Census 2010 data contains complete count data for population, age by sex, tenure, race and ethnicity, average household size, group quarters, tenure, and housing units. The Census Bureau releases this data every 10 years.

American Community Survey (ACS)

The American Community Survey (ACS) from the Census Bureau is designed to provide data that is more frequently updated than what was provided by the decennial census. The ACS collects and produces population and housing information every year instead of every ten years. The ACS offers sample data that replaces the data previously collected from the census long form. Each ACS data variable will be reported with a Margin of Error and represents a five-year average for small levels of geography such as block groups.
