Application settings

On a Windows device, you can define folders as project and basemap folders, configure the application's appearance through the application settings.

NoteNote:

The settings are effective at application level and apply to all projects.

Configuring the application settings

Steps:
  1. Start the ArcGIS application (Read Running the application for the first time for more details).
  2. Tap the menu icon menu iconbutton at the upper left corner, then tap View and Manage Settings.
  3. Tap Application Settings on the View and Manage Settings page.

    The Application Settings page appears.

See the sections below to learn how to manage project and basemap folders, and how to configure the application's look-and-feel. When you finish the settings, click OK to save and exit.

Project and basemap folders settings

By default, mobile projects and basemaps added by reference (See Adding offline basemaps for more information) are stored under C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\ArcGIS Mobile (Windows Vista or Windows 7) or C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\My Documents\ArcGIS Mobile (Windows XP). You can define additional project and basemap folders if you choose to store projects and/or basemap data at other locations other than the default locations. For example, you might want to organize your projects by counties or cities and these would require different folder structures than the default one.

You can then add the project or basemap folder by tapping the add folder button Add folder on the Additional Project Folder area or Additional Basemap Folders area. To remove an added folder, tap the folder path listed then tap the remove folder button Remove folder. Note that removing a project or basemap folder doesn't delete the folder on the disk.

Appearance settings

The appearance settings allow you to configure the application to be used under different sunlight condition. The settings include:

  • Skin—Select from the drop down list the daytime skin (in a lighter color theme) or the nighttime skin (in a darker color theme) for varying sunlight conditions.
  • Brightness—Drag the brightness slider to adjust the brightness of the application. You can also reset the value to the brightest by tapping the menu icon menu icon button then tap Dim Application to uncheck it.
  • Animation—Check to turn on the visual animations, which include map zooming, panning and keyboard on/off animations. With this setting off, the performance on low-powered devices can be improved.
  • Open last used project at startup—If checked, when the applicaiton is launched, it will try to open the last project you used (if any).
