Mobile maps

A mobile map is a collection of map layers contained within a mobile project and used by the ArcGIS for Windows Mobile applications for editing or orienting your field crew. A mobile map can be comprised of operational map layers for synchronizing, querying, and editing, and basemap layers for referencing or navigational purposes. Additionally, a mobile map helps to orient the field crew in the field, especially when they are using GPS-enabled mobile devices. In this case, their current location, captured via GPS, appears on their map on top of the basemap and operational layers.

NoteNote:

All layers within a mobile map must be of the same spatial reference to display correctly. See An overview of spatial references.

Using Mobile Project Center, you can include and configure operational map layers to serve your field data collection and inspection needs. The map layer properties that you can configure include the layer's purpose and whether to include attachment support. (For details, see Operational layer properties). For each single operational map layer, you can configure how attributes are represented in view, edit, and update forms, how fields get auto-populated, and other properties. For details, see Configuring map layer fields.

You can also use Mobile Project Center to add basemap layers to provide reference or navigational information. A basemap layer cannot be edited or queried. It can come from either online or offline sources, depending on your available resources and the field workflow you use. For more information, see Choosing basemap layers.
