What are Portal for ArcGIS hosted services?

Hosted services in Portal for ArcGIS are those feature and tiled map services that are published to the ArcGIS for Server site your organization has set as the portal's hosting server. There are two ways to publish to the hosting server:

What are the prerequisites for publishing hosted services?

Your portal administrator must configure the portal with a hosting server.

To publish, you must be signed in to the portal with an account that is in either the publisher or administrator role.

What types of clients can use my portal's hosted services?

There are many Esri clients that can use your portal's hosted services. You can also make your own application using ArcGIS viewers and API. See Common clients of Portal for ArcGIS for a list of clients. For information on how to use the services in other clients, see Using hosted services.

Who can see the hosted services I publish?

By default, all items added to your portal, including hosted services, are accessible only to the publisher. You can choose to make your services available to specific groups or your entire organization. See Administering hosted services for more information.
