Enabling and removing pop-up windows

A web map can show descriptive information about features configured for display in a pop-up window. Enabling pop-up windows in a map service layer is a quick way to show pop-up windows in the map. However, layers can contain a large amount of feature data, and maps can include several layers, so the pop-up window tends to look better if you configure them with selected fields, formatting, media, and so on. For more information, see Configuring pop-up windows.

NoteNote:

Feature service layers always have a pop-up window enabled, so you do not see an option to enable pop-up windows. You do see an option to configure them.

To enable or remove pop-up windows on a layer, follow the steps below.

Steps:
  1. Verify that you are logged in if you want to save the changes to a map you own or save a copy of a map owned by somebody else.
  2. Open the map in which you want to configure pop-up windows in the map viewer.
  3. Click the Details button.
  4. Click the Contents button.
  5. Navigate to the sublayer that contains the feature data you want to configure.
  6. Click the arrow to the right of the layer name and click Enable Pop-up.
  7. Click the arrow to the right of the layer name and click Remove Pop-up if you do not want to display pop-up windows for a map service layer or feature layer you have previously enabled. There is no option to remove pop-up windows for map notes layers or KML layers.
